About the Artist
A self taught artist, Nell began making miniatures at the age of five. After receiving her B.A. in art history from the University of Delaware, she worked in the fashion industry and as a fine arts appraiser before becoming a special effects model maker. During her years in the motion picture industry, she worked with many prominent directors, including John Dykstra, Steven Spielberg, Douglas Trumbull and Ridley Scott.
Nell left special effects in 1993 to devote herself entirely to creating 1:144 scale miniatures, using the business name “Miniature Miniatures.” Her work is represented in numerous museums in the United States and Europe as well as in many private collections, and is often seen in miniature magazines.
Nell has been a member of the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts and of the International Guild of Miniature Artisans for many years. She was awarded the title of IGMA Fellow in 1998, and has served one year as President. She is a strong supporter of IGMA’s goal of promoting fine miniatures as an art form.
